In 1999, Wackenhut had the security contract for the Callaway Nuclear Plant. In a 2001 decision of violation, the NRC found Union Electric liable for penalties because of Wackenhut’s 1999 violations of federal whistleblower regulations at the plant. The facts showed that Wackenhut fired Terri Elliott, one of its security officers, and reprimanded a training instructor for reporting that a plant watchman had falsified his qualifications and was working in violation of federal requirements.
